Be Melodramatic drama review

Hi viewers, sincere apologies for not updating this blog for years.

Today I will be doing a review on a 2019 korean drama entitled “Be melodramatic”. This drama is not very popular since this drama was broad casted on a cable channel “JTBC”. I got to know this drama about reading a post on Facebook.

Three good friends (the three ladies in the poster) decided to live together along with Eun Jung’s brother and Han Joo’s son after Eun Jung’s boyfriend passed away from an illness as Eun Jung developed PSTD and she was often caught talking to her boyfriend even though he was no longer around.

The three good friends worked in the entertainment industry. Eun Jung was a documentary director and founded her own company. She earned big bucks after her first movie became popular but she decided to donate her wealth to a charity. Jin Joo was an assistant drama writer who worked for a famous writer. Han Joo is a marketing team leader of a drama production company.

The story then went on to show the three good friend love stories.

This is my favourite couple of this drama.

They first met as co-worker. Jin Joo’s boss met up with Beom-soo who is a director with five consecutive hit dramas. (The guy in the above picture) and wanted him to be the director of her new drama. He declined the offer stating that her drama was boring. Jin Joo was impressed by his words and actions.

One day, Beom Soo saw Jin Joo’s script which she has submitted through a competition and liked her script alot and offered himself to the director of her drama. Jin Joo initially declined the offer as Beom Soo’s assistant director was her ex boyfriend but eventually accepted his offer.

The part that I like about this couple is that when they were working, they would often argued because they have different opinions. But once it reached 6pm, they would go back to being a lovely couple.

For the two other good friends, their love story wasn’t the highlight of this drama and there weren’t much scenes about it.

Now, it’s time for OST. This is my favourite OST for the whole drama. The original singer is Jang Beom June. One of the member of Busker Busker.

But there is an actor version MV where the two main actors sung the song. *scream*

Rating: 8.5/10

This drama is not the typical romantic drama and this drama also has a gay character acted by Eun-jung’s brother. Gay drama/movie is still not a topic/theme that is accepted by most Koreans thus there are not many drama featuring this theme. This drama will make you rethink about life.

Birth of a beauty review

Birth of a beauty is a 2014 Korean drama. Sa Geum-ran married into a well-to-do family, but her husband Lee Kang-joon was living in United States for his business for 7 years, and she lives with his mother and sisters who treat her badly. Geum-ran learns that Kang-joon has been having an affair with a broadcast announcer Gyo Chae-yeon, and he asks for a divorce. When she sees her in-laws welcoming Chae-yeon with open arms, Geum-ran threatens her husband, who follows her and causes her to drive her car off a cliff. Everyone assumes that Geum-ran committed suicide and attends her funeral, not knowing that she’s still alive. In order to get revenge, Geum-ran begs Han Tae-hee (Joo Sang-wook), whom she thought was the plastic surgeon of extreme-makeover television show to transform her, and he reluctantly agrees because of his own ulterior motives.

Sara/Sa Geum-ran acted by Han Ye-seul was overweight but kind-hearted. Although she live separately from her husband, she does not complain but helped to take care of his family members especially his dementia grandmother. One day, she received a phone call telling her that her husband was back in Korea. Geum-ran was shocked to know about it as her husband did not return home. She went to the hotel that he was staying at and realized that he had an affair with Gyo Chae-yeon, a broadcaster. Her husband wanted to divorce with her but she refused and even threaten to announce their relationship to the public. Her husband follow her and caused her to drive off the cliff. She decided to undergo plastic surgery in order to take revenge. After the surgery, Geum-ran emerges from the full-body makeover as a stunningly beautiful woman, and she begins calling herself Sara.

Han Tae-hee acted by Joo Sang-wook was a heir to Winner corporation but decided to hide his real identity as per his father’s instruction. Geum-ran begged Han Tae-hee to transform her.Tae-hee helped to transform Geum-ran to become a slim and clever woman. With a common goal, they scheme to ruin Kang-joon and Chae-yeon’s upcoming wedding in three weeks. As they spend more time together, Tae-hee fell in love with Geum-ran.

Lee Kang-joon acted by Jung Gyu-woon married Geum-ran when he was in debt because Geum-ran had a piece of land under her name. He “murdered” his wife and forged a suicide note to make everyone believed that his wife commited suicide. Kang-joon fell in love with Sara without knowing that she was his ex-wife.

Gyo Chae-yeon acted by Wang Ji-hye had an affair with Kang-joon. She knew that Kang-joon “murdered” his ex-wife and threaten him when Chae-yeon realized that Kang-joon was in love with Sara.

Rating:4/5
This drama does not has an interesting plot and I have seen drama with similar plots before. However, what is worthy to watch is their acting skills.

Liar game drama review

Liar game is a 2014 Korean drama. Nam Da-jung acted by Kim So-eun is a college student who passes a hidden camera audition and is invited to join the reality show “Liar Game”, a psychological survival game wherein participants trick each other and the one who ultimately succeeds wins the prize money of ₩10 billion (US$9.3 million). Tempted with the chance to pay off her debts, Da-jung joins the game and gets conned by her ex-teacher in the first round. Her debt collector ask her to find a genius ex-con swindler and former psychology professor, Ha Woo-jin acted by Lee Sang-yoon to help her win the game.

Nam Da-jung acted by Kim So-eun was walking along the street one day when an elderly lady asked her for directions. She rejected initially as she was in a hurry but seeing that noone was willing to help the old lady, Da-jung decided to help her. The elderly lady went to the toilet and left her luggage with Da-jung. After waiting for a few hours, Da-jung realized that the elderly lady did not come back at all. Da-jung realized that the luggage contained ₩10 billion. She was tempted to keep the money to pay off her dad’s loan and school fees but she decided to bring the luggage to the police station. At the police station, “Liar game” host informed that she had passed the audition. Her debt collector asked her to participate the show so that she can pay off her dad’s loan. However if she lose the game, she need to pay the TV station 50% of the game money. After realizing that she was conned in the first round, she seek helped from genius ex-con swindler and former psychology professor, Ha Woo-jin who eventually helped her to win every round of the game.

Ha Woo-jin acted by Lee Sang-yoon was a former psychology professor. He was the youngest psychology professor at the university. He was arrested for murder as he seek revenge on the person who drove his mother to commit suicide. Woo-jin decided to help Da-jung because Da-jung was similar to his mother, who are willing to help other in need even though they are poor and they trust other people easily. Woo-jin helped Da-jung in round one and decided that both of them should stop joining the show but was persuaded by Kang Do-young, “liar game” host , to continue the game if Woo-jin wanted to know who was the real person who make his mother committed suicide.

Kang Do-young acted by Shin Sung-rok. Host of the show “liar game”. He is a financial consultant and one of the key person who created this show. in actual fact, he created this show because he hate Woo-jin’s mother and decided to seek revenge.

Rating:4.6/5
A not so typically drama that I have seen before as the plot is quite unique. You can never guess the ending. A must watched show for those who loved challenging games.

Can we love drama review

 

“Can we love” is a 2014 drama. It is a drama about love lives and careers of three women, who are in their late thirties. Jung Wan acted by Eugene is bubbly and forthright woman who divorces after ten years of marriage and moves in with her son to her mother’s house. Jung Wan’s friends; Sun Mi acted by Kim Yoo Mi is a single lady who own an interior company and Ji Hyun acted by Choi Jung Yoon is a housewife and mother of her teenage daughter and 5 year-old son. Things started to change when they entered into a new romance.

 

 

Sun Mi acted by Kim Yoo Mi own an interior company. She is a workaholic and perfectionist who expect her workers to be the same as her. Her workers find her mean and unfriendly. But one of her workers, Choi Yoon Suk acted by Park Min Woo is in love with her. Sun Mi rejected him because of their age gap. However, Yoon Suk will help Sun Mi whenever she faced any difficulities, including beating up her ex-boyfriend who make used of her as she is an interior owner who can help to decorate his house for free. They eventually went into a relationship as Sun Mi was pregnant with Yoon Suk’s child and she realized that Yoon Suk really love her.

 

Jung Wan acted by Eugene divorced with her husband as she was sick and tired with repaying loans that her sister-in-law had owned. She brought her son and they live together with her mother. Jung wan was a scriptwriter before she got married and she decided to be a scriptwriter again to support her family. She sent her script to Do Young acted by Kim Sung Soo, a movie company boss. Do Young like Jung wan’s script and invited her to be a scriptwriter for Uhm Tae Woong acted by Oh Kyung Soo, a famous movie director. Tae Woong fell in love with Jung wan and confessed to her but Jung Wan rejected as she was worried about her son’s rejection. They finally get together after many challenges.

 

Ji Hyun acted by Choi Jung Yoon married into a rich family. On the surface, she appeared to have a blissful marriage and family but the truth are her mother-in-law and daughter hate her to the core. Her mother-in-law treat her nicely infront of people. However, when they are alone, her mother-in-law start to torture her. Things change when she met her ex-boyfriend, Do Young. Ji Hyun’s husband found out that Ji Hyun lied to him that she was his first love and she even had a child with Do Young.

Comments: As the show’s name suggest, can we love is a question mark for me and you. It is easy to fall in love but whether we are loving the correct person is a question. Overcoming challenges together is a blissful thing. However, if both of you cannot overcome it, things will go wrong. Most importantly is to find a person who love you and you also love that person.

Surplus princess review

 

Aileen is a mermaid princess who is in love with Kwon Shi-kyung, a human celebrity chef. While recording a TV show next to the Han River, Shi-kyung hits his head and falls into the water, and Aileen stops him from drowning by kissing him underwater. Shi-kyung is being pulled out from the water by Yoon Jin-ah, an intern who works for and is also in love with Shi-kyung. In order to meet Shi-kyung again, Aileen learn from her friend that she can drink a potion to “grow” legs. She steals a magic potion from the male witch Ahn Ma-nyeo, and is transformed into a human girl. It’s only after her transformation that Aileen learns that she has 100 days to find true love, or else she will die and turn into bubbles. Ahn Ma-nyeo helps Aileen by setting her up with the fake identity of “Kim Ha-ni,” and sends her to live at his friend’s house in Seoul with other young people.

Jo Bo-ah as Kim Ha-ni/Aileen. The eighteenth mermaid princess of a mermaid kingdom in the sea. She finds a smartphone that fell into the sea and uses it to surf the internet and learn about the human world and has a list of must eat food.  She becomes infatuated with chef Kwon Shi-kyung; after saving him from the Han River, Aileen decides to become human so that she can be with him. Hye-young becomes Aileen’s friend and confidant when she discovers her true identity.

 

Song Jae-rim as Kwon Shi-kyung. A famous chef in the human world. He appear to be cold and arrogant but he suffers from prosopagnosia. Initially, he is not fond of Aileen but he started to fall in love with her when he realized that the person who save him was her.

 On Joo-wan as Lee Hyun-myung. He is unable to find a job with his art degree. At the request of his girlfriend Jin-ah, he gives up his pursuit of art and tries to find a desk job. However, he keep facing difficulties in finding a desk job and eventually, his girlfriend left him.

Rating:7.5/10
This drama is actually showing the difficulties of university graduates trying to find a job in today’s society. However, if you do not give up, you will eventually succeed. Luckily, the drama is not very “draggy” so it is not that boring.

You are all surrounded review

 

You are all surrounded is a 2014 Korean drama. Eun Dae-gu (Lee Seung-gi), Eo Soo-sun (Go Ara), Park Tae-il (Ahn Jae-hyun) and Ji Gook (Park Jung-min) — otherwise known as the P4 — are the new recruits in the violent crimes unit at Gangnam Police Station. These rookies are neither enthusiastic, nor passionate about their new jobs and have joined the crime squad for various reasons. They are led by erratic and hotheaded Seo Pan-seok (Cha Seung-won), who do not like incompetent new recruits and even asked them to resign.

 

 

 

Eun Dae-gu  intelligent and has a photographic memory. He had a painful past. As a young boy, he was named Kim Ji-yong living in Masan with his mother. One day,his mother was murdered in front of his eyes when she attempted to testify as a witness to a crime. To avoid getting killed after being chased by the murderer, he changed his name to Eun Dae-gu and grew up in an orphanage. He eventually becomes a detective to bring his mother’s killer to justice, while spying on his boss Seo Pan-seok, whom he believes conspired with his mother’s killer.

Soo-sun applied seven times before being accepted into the police academy. She is the only female in the new class of officers. Soo-sun and Ji-yong went to the same middle school in Masan, but she initially doesn’t recognize him in his present incarnation as Dae-gu. She eventually fell in love with Dae-gu.

 

Rating 9/10
Quite a funny detective story with twists at the end of the plot which make you unable to predict the murderer.
